The window blind that would not drop
This window blind was not dramatic. It just would not drop, which is worse in some ways because small problems follow a woman around all day. She said it bothered her every time she used the front room. I said daily trouble becomes LOUD even when the part itself is quiet.
There was late afternoon light and her wanting privacy before evening. I set my tools down and she stood near the doorway with that look people get when they know the job is too small to justify the feelings. I did not judge. Feelings attach to hardware all the time. The cord lock was where the trouble lived.
I had to get low enough to see it straight. That is when she asked if I was comfortable. I said comfort was not the point, access was the point. Tight spaces require patience,, not pride. I gave it a few turns, tested it, then backed it off because the first position was trying too hard.
The second fit took. It moved smooth and held FIRM. She laughed in that soft relieved way and said I made it look easy. I said easy is usually just slow with fewer mistakes. I wrote WINDOW BLIND - A BLIND CAN BE SHY AND STUBBORN because that was the lesson and also because my memory needs supervision.
She thanked me more than the job required. That happens with women sometimes. I figured she appreciated no lecture and no big bill. Could be that. Could be she liked having someone careful in the house for a minute. Either way the window blind behaved when I left,, and that is what I was hired to do.
Comments are turned off for now. I had a form here once and I do not know where the messages went,, which is not a system.
